Police Arrest Duo Who Snatched Money Bag from Women

The Sharjah Police on Monday chased and arrested two men who allegedly snatched a handbag containing money.A woman and her daughter had withdrawn from a bank in Sharjah after assaulting the younger woman. The police said the woman and her daughter got into their car after withdrawing Dh20,000 from a bank branch on Bank Street. The duo approached their car and said one of the tyres was flat. As the mother got out to check the tyre, one of the men tried to snatch the bag. The daughter resisted him, but he hit her in the hand and ran away with his accomplice.

Man shot by police 'had breakdown'

A man seen in a video being shot by police was a labourer, unpaid for several months, sources told Gulf News. The video obtained by Gulf News was aired on Friday. A friend of the man said he did not have money to support his family in India. "He suffered a nervous breakdown and attacked people that day with a metal bar."Witnesses said the man was unarmed and scared.

60 Students Escape Unhurt After Schoolbus Catches Fire

Nearly 60 students of an Indian school in Sharjah had a narrow escape when their schoolbus caught fire, minutes after a car rammed into it on Monday morning. Grade VI students and teachers of Delhi Private School (DPS) Sharjah, who were on a field trip to the planetarium at Sharjah Science Museum, rushed out of the bus after its petrol tank caught fire. Both the car and the bus were gutted. “The accident took place around 9 am as the bus was entering into the museum premises. “Soon after the collision, we sensed the strong smell of diesel and realised something was amiss. We immediately rushed the children out of the bus as our main concern was their safety,” said Priya Monteiro, a Social Studies teacher, who was accompanying
the children. The fire was put out by Sharjah Civil Defence personnel. None of the students, mostly aged 12, were injured. However, the driver of the car sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. The students were later taken back to the school in another schoolbus.

Two killed in bus crash

Two people were killed and 18 others injured in a bus crash at Al Sajaa Industrial District in Sharjah yesterday. The accident occurred at 6.10am when one bus attempted to overtake another. A car was coming in the other direction and the bus tried to avoid it but lost control. The driver swerved to the left, and the bus struck and killed two Asian workers standing by the side of the road. The bus then veered back onto the road and collided with the other bus. Emergency services were called and the injured were taken to Al Qasimi and Kuwaiti Hospitals.

Sharjah Police arrest 3 for kidnapping and seeking Dh10,000 ransom

Sharjah: Sharjah Police on Sunday arrested three Bangladeshis for kidnapping a compatriot and demanding a ransom of Dh10,000. The victim, Zaher Iqbal, has been rescued and police confirmed that he was unharmed and is in good health. Lieutenant Colonel Yousuf Mousa Al Naqbi, director of Sharjah Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said the abductors held the hostage in an apartment at Al Nabba'a area. Sharjah Police said they received a call from a company owner reporting that one of his employees had been kidnapped.
The company owner explained that the kidnappers had initially contacted one of the victim's friends and demanded the ransom money for the victim's release.

Reduced to ashes

Scores of firefighters tackle huge blaze at industrial estate that leaves factories gutted. Firefighters were drafted in from three emirates to tackle a huge blaze at a factory complex yesterday that caused millions of dirhams of damage. The inferno raged throughout the day as firefighting crews tried to bring it under control at Sharjah Industrial Area No 15. Thick smoke carpeted the area and could be seen for kilometres as the fire spread to adjoining warehouses. At least five buildings were reduced to ashes, including a clothing warehouse, a printing press and a juice store. The fire broke out at the factory at around 9.45am and swiftly spread, destroying stored goods, office furniture, clothes and machinery.

Sharjah police bust credit card ring

Sharjah: Police arrested a four-member gang who withdrew cash from 31 credit cards by conning various banks using forged documents.
A senior official at Sharjah Police said up to Dh30,000 was withdrawn from each credit card, and that most of the money was transferred to a bank account in Pakistan. According to police, three of the suspects worked at a private company in Al Hamariya Free Zone. The three men, all Pakistani nationals, forged a company contract stating that the company was hiring a new employee.

Sharjah Police confirm identity of murdered Russian businessman

Sharjah: Police on Tuesday confirmed the identity of the murdered Russian businessman, Kaprov Yevgeni, 51, who was the owner of an air cargo and freight company. Yevgeni’s body was found in Sharjah at Burj Square, Bank Street, Al Rolla area on Friday. His head had been smashed in. His Wife is helping police with their enquiries and five suspects are still at large. Police are trying to locate their whereabouts.
Yevgeni’s wife reported her husband missing after he did not return home on Friday night. Three of the victim’s cars were also missing. Sharjah Police found Yevgeni’s body in the driver’s seat of one of them.

Baby's Body Found

The dead body of a baby girl has been found on the pavement of a road in the Al Khan area of Sharjah. It is the third such case in a month, Sharjah Police said. They received a call from a passer-by who found the body about 9pm on Sunday. “We rushed to the scene and saw the body of an infant girl,” the official said. “It was horrible to see her abandoned on the road.” Police called an ambulance and the body was taken to Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah. “We believe that she was less than six months old,” the official said.
