A man was found dead in his car in the Al Butaina area of Sharjah early on Tuesday. Police suspect homicide. Police said a man in his early 60s was found dead in his four-wheel drive vehicle at around 6am. Passers-by on their way to work spotted him. "The passers-by told Al Hira Police Station," the police official said. "He was found with a bloated body. Experts at the forensic laboratory are conducting an autopsy to find out the reason behind the death," he said.

A two-year-old girl died after her parents forgot her inside their car at midday in the summer heat, police said on Sunday. she died in her parents' car on Saturday after she was left behind near their home. The girl was taken to the Royal Hospital. She was already dead when she reached the hospital. The case is being investigated by Al Garb police station.

A woman was arrested in a private hospital after she confessed to having given birth to an illegitimate baby, police told Gulf News. The woman, in her late 20s, went last week to Al Zahra hospital to give birth. The woman, who was in labour, went alone to the hospital, which admitted her. "The woman paid Dh5,000 to the hospital as delivery charges," police said. Immediately after she gave birth, the hospital informed police that the woman was not married. Police said the hospital should have informed them immediately. "They should not accept such cases of unmarried pregnant women," police said

A man was stabbed to death in Sharjah on Saturday morning, police told Gulf News. A police official said the victim appeared to be a national, but his identity is still not clear and the location of the crime has not been released. "All we know is that this man was found murdered in Sharjah after being attacked and brutally stabbed," the official said.

The Sharjah Police on Tuesday arrested 11 men in connection with the death of a 23-year-old man who was allegedly beaten and stabbed over a bootlegging turf row. Two friends of the deceased, were also arrested for their alleged involvement in bootlegging liquor. Khaleej Times reported on Monday about the man's death following the assault in Sharjah Industrial Area No 10 on Saturday. Members of the gang who had earlier warned him against selling alcohol in a labour accommodation allegedly attacked him on Saturday. The police rushed him to Al Qasimi Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Passengers on a flight to India had to be evacuated after one of its tyres burst during take-off. The incident happened at Sharjah International Airport yesterday at 12.10pm, disrupting air traffic for several hours and delaying passengers. The airport was temporarily closed as a result of the runway being blocked. Trivandrum-bound Air India Express flight IX536 was about to take off when the tyre burst. All 172 passengers onboard had to disembark. Mohini Singh, the airport manager for Air India Express at Sharjah, said no one was hurt in the incident. “We are assessing the damage to the plane. All passengers have been taken care of by the airlines and have been provided with food at the airport,” she said last night. Air Arabia said that six of their flights were affected because of the problem.

According to police information, four months ago the suspect, R.B.S, allegedly murdered his acquaintance, a national M.A, and dumped his body in the desert in the Al Barashi area. The suspect is a friend of the victim's wife.

The Sharjah Police on Wednesday arrested two Emiratis and an Omani while allegedly trying to smuggle more than 13kg of drugs into the country through the border. Col Saif Al Zari, Head of Police Office in eastern areas, said the anti-narcotic section of the police received information that a 36-year-old man is bringing drugs in his car through the border. The police tightened vigil at the border and CID officers stopped the national’s car in which another man was also travelling. A search in the vehicle yielded 12kg of hashish and 28 grams of heroin.
Within an hour, another car driven by a man was stopped and 1kg of heroin and 24 grams of hashish were seized from the vehicle.

The Sharjah Police on Wednesday arrested two men for allegedly beating a compatriot to death in a row over bootlegging liquor on their turf. The police said the two suspects took the 26-year-old victim to Al Kuwaiti Hospital on June 17 claiming that the latter had met with a traffic accident. During the check-up, the doctor attending him realised that the man whose condition was serious had been assaulted. The hospital authorities contacted the police who arrived immediately. The victim succumbed to his injuries the next day. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers managed to identify the two suspects and tracked them down to a bachelor accommodation in Maysaloon area of Sharjah. By the time, they had fled the house.

Two masked men, reportedly armed with no more than knives, left a bank here poorer by half-a-million dirhams in a brazen robbery on Tuesday. Police said the incident occurred at the Mashreq Bank branch on Al Ittihad Road in Al Tawoun around 2 pm when the two forced the teller to part with the cash and escaped in a getaway car. On their way out, the two jammed the door from the outside, leaving a stunned staff of five and a few customers locked in. None was injured in the incident which lasted minutes, a spokesman of the bank said. This is the second such incident this year. On March 8, masked men shot a security guard in the leg and also fled with Dh500,000 in a robbery outside an ATM of Noor bank in Al Buhaira corncihe. No arrests have been yet made in that connection.
