An Indian grocer who was found wounded and bleeding at his shop in Tourist Club Area here on Friday afternoon, died at a hospital later, police and a close friend of the deceased told Gulf News. The victim, 38, was from Kasargode district in Kerala, said the friend, who did not wish to be identified. Police said they have taken three people into custody for questioning: a delivery man and two friends of the victim. The motive of the murder seems to be a dispute over money, police said.

Police have discovered a suitcase containing hashish.Colonel Maktoum Al Sheriefi, the director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Abu Dhabi Police, said they arrested a suspect in Al Shahama. Lt Colonel Sultan Sawayeh Al Darmeki, the head of the Anti Narcotics Section of CID, added that they received a tip off that the 32-year-old had the hashish and came to Abu Dhabi to sell the drugs. The squad arrested the suspect, who works as a taxi controller, and found the drugs in his suitcase in the back seat of his car. They found 11 pieces of hashish marked with the phrase ‘Beauty of 2008’.

Five persons have been arrested in connection with concerted attempts at defrauding the UAE Central Bank of Dh153.9 billion, police said on Sunday. The case involves forgery. They are charged with having made two attempts within 40 days recently to prove that the bank owed money, by way of inheritance, to the ‘leader’ of an unspecified neighbouring country. According to an Abu Dhabi police statement, the brazen attempts were masterminded by a sixth person, resident of the neighbouring country.

Three sisters were killed by a speeding car in Abu Dhabi and their nanny sustained critical injuries. The incident took place on Monday on the Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum road, after the Al Jawiya bridge in Abu Dhabi. The three girls, aged seven, six, and four, and their Indonesian nanny, 24, were crossing the street in a part not designated for pedestrians when they were hit by a motorist driving recklessly and exceeding the speed limit. The three girls died on the spot.

My daughter said that when she was looking at the toys a man approached her. He then started touching her inappropriately and touched her private parts. She tried to move away and run. The man blocked her way and repeated his acts. She finally managed to push him away and came back to me.

The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance has sentenced a number of former chairmen and board members of the Islamic Finance Company to jail, it was reported last night by the WAM News Agency. The court indicted them for breach of trust, the mis-assessment of shares with bad faith and the violation of the commercial law of the UAE. The court based its decision on the exhibits and record of the investigations, which established beyond any doubt that the accused had committed the offences with which they were charged, WAM reported. It said the first accused had transferred assets from the company’s account into that of another company in which he and the fifth defendant both owned shares.

Abu Dhabi Police arrested an driver and three other suspects after a body was found floating at a marina in Abu Dhabi recently. The 38-year-old launch driver, the main suspect, confessed to the crime during the interrogations. Colonel Maktoum Al Sharaiqi, Director of Criminal Investigations and Intelligence, Abu Dhabi Police, said, “A forensic report concluded that the cause of the death was a heavy blow on the head with a hard subject.’’Police questioned the four suspects, including a sailor, and a relative worker of the victim who came to stay two days with them to complete travel procedures after he left his work as a boat driver.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court has sentenced two men to three years in jail followed by deportation on charges of human trafficking. She fell into the hands of the accused, who sold her to another person and coerced her subsequently into prostitution. Earlier, the public prosecution in Abu Dhabi brought the case before the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court, following their confessions to the charges in police and public prosecution investigations.

A female doctor and an executive director at one of the top private hospitals in Abu Dhabi have been fired and sued for causing brain damage to a baby during delivery. The Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) has cancelled the medical licences of the two on the grounds of medical negligence.

A man has been hailed a hero after diving into the sea to rescue a driver trapped inside his sinking car. Rabea Al-Bobo, 33, did not hesitate when he saw the motorist was in trouble. He dived into the water and swam out to the car, which had plunged into the sea off Abu Dhabi after the driver lost control of the wheel. “Al-Bobo was at the port in Abu Dhabi about 7.35pm when he saw the motorist was drowning inside the car,” said a police officer.
