Bomb at luxury hotel in Pakistan kills at least 11

Suicide attackers shot their way past guards and set off a massive blast Tuesday outside a luxury hotel where foreigners and well-to-do People, killing at least 11 people and wounding 70, officials said. The bombers struck the Pearl Continental Hotel at about 10 p.m., when nightlife was still in swing. The attack reduced a section of the hotel to concrete rubble and twisted steel and left a huge crater in a parking lot.

Drunk men face court

Two drunken men sexually assaulted women on a beach, a court heard. The men appeared at Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday over the incident on a Dubai beach. The defendants both work in the financial sector. One is charged with sexual assault and the other with using threatening behaviour. Both are also charged with illegally consuming alcohol. They deny the charges. According to police reports, in March a 30-year-old Uzbek woman was on the beach with her husband and a female compatriot. “My husband was swimming when the men asked for a football,” she said. “I gave it to them because they were drunk... they kept annoying us.”
She then claims that the men molested her and her friend.

Jailed for forging credit cards

Two men have been jailed for a year after forging 17 credit cards and then going on a shopping spree with them in Dubai. The men went to an electronics shop in Deira City Centre and tried to buy a dhs12,000 laptop. But the salesman became suspicious when the card was refused and then they produced another card in someone else’s name. The police were called and the men confessed to officers they had entered the UAE on fake passports. Forged documents were found in their flat in International City. A third man, is thought to also have been involved and is at large.

Family of six killed in Pakistan grenade blast

Six family members were killed and four others injured when a hand grenade exploded in a pick-up truck in a Pakistani tribal area near the Afghan border, officials said Sunday. The incident took place late Saturday near Asar Madakhel village, around 45 kilometres (22 miles) west of Miranshah, the main town of the restive North Waziristan tribal district. “I saw the bodies of husband, wife and their four children, and also four injured at the hospital,” local administration official Niaz Gul told AFP. Gul said that the pick-up carrying passengers from the border village of Lawara Mandi was heading to Miranshah when the grenade exploded on board.

Explosions shake northwestern Pakistan

Peshawar: Two loud explosions on Sunday shook a northwest Pakistan militant stronghold that has been the frequent target of US missile strikes, witnesses said. Officials said it was a suspected US missile attack targetting a militant hidout. At least three people were reported killed. Witnesses heard the blasts and saw plumes of smoke rising near Wana, the main city in South Waziristan tribal region. Trucks carrying Taliban fighters were seen racing toward the scene. It was not immediately clear if anyone was killed or wounded.

Pakistan police: 16 killed in suicide car bomb attack in northwest

Islamabad: Police say 16 people were killed in a suicide car bomb attack on a checkpoint in northwest Pakistan. Senior police official Riaz Khan says that the majority of those killed Wednesday were officers. The attack occurred in Charsada, an area in Pakistan's northwest region bordering Afghanistan. Officials said Thursday they had found evidence that indicated the attack may have originated in the northwest's Swat Valley, where the government recently agreed to impose Islamic law in exchange for peace with the Taliban.

Man Chops off Wife’s Nose

KARACHI - A man chopped off his wife’s nose with a sharp weapon on Monday accusing her of having an affair with her nephew in Sukkur, Sindh province’s third largest city, reported local media and a private tv channel. The victim, identified as Aasia Mamdani, was accused by her husband of having illicit relations with her nephew and in a fit of anger chopped off her nose after having an argument with her. The mother of the victim took her to the Sukkur Civil Hospital where she was operated upon.
