A man stabbed his girlfriend to death at the villa they shared after she became convinced that he was having an affair, a court has heard.
Friends said the pair had been “the perfect couple” but in the weeks leading up to her death, the girlfriend had become increasingly concerned that her lover was seeing another woman. After she confronted him about his alleged infidelity, a heated argument ended in her being stabbed in the stomach with a 25cm-long kitchen knife at the home they shared in the Manama area of Deira in Dubai. Her boyfriend, a 37-year-old mechanic, went on trial at Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday charged with murder. The court heard he had tried to cover up his crime by claiming his girlfriend had committed suicide.

Dubai Customs has found opium worth more than dhs3.5 million hidden in fabrics shipped through Dubai Cargo Village. The opium, due for refinement into heroin in a Western country, was covered in black peppers in an attempt to fool sniffer dogs. It was also surrounded by carbon paper, which is known to make drugs undetectable to thermal scanners. However, Dubai Customs had recently updated its scanners to see past carbon paper. The officer who uncovered the drugs had just completed a course on new scanning technology when he spotted a suspicious substance wrapped in brown fabric. Mohammed Mattar Al Marri, Executive Director of Dubai Customs Cargo, said he was delighted his officers had spotted the drugs.“The scanner can distinguish organic matter from inorganic, but cannot tell you exactly what is in the package. That’s where the skill of the customs official comes in to play,” he said. This is the third time this year that drug dealers have tried to bring drugs through Dubai by wrapping it in wholesale fabrics.

A teenage boy has been left battered and bruised after he was attacked by a baseball bat-wielding gang for walking out in front of their car.
Seif El Mahdi was set upon as he stepped off his school bus and crossed 47th Street in Mirdif on Monday. The 17-year-old student, who goes to Lycee Georges Pompidou School in Dubai, was confronted by the driver of a green sports car who stopped in the middle of the road to challenge the youngster for crossing in front of him. The driver then opened the boot of his car, took out three baseball bats and handed them to his two passengers before all three savagely attacked the youngster. Horrified Dorra Tlili saw the incident unfold outside her house. She said: “I was in the garden and I saw what happened. “The car stopped in the middle of the road and the driver started shouting at him ‘are you crazy?’ “He got out, took out three baseball bats and gave them to two other guys who were with him. They were all pretty young, I didn’t think they looked old enough to be driving. Then they started attacking the boy - it was shocking.”Children from Seif’s school bus rushed off to help him, with some even throwing stones at the attackers to make them stop. It was only when a 12-year-old girl began to call the police that the thugs fled.

A man has denied blindfolding a four-year-old boy and forcing him to perform a sex act on him. The 23-year-old Indian allegedly sexually molested the child, while he was being cared for by the defendant’s mum, who was his babysitter, Dubai Court of First Instance heard yesterday. The youngster who told his mum about the ordeal was forced to swear before a religious statue that he was telling the truth before his mum reported it to police. The victim’s 26-year-old mum told the court that she had asked her son what he had done on the day of the alleged incident. She said: “Everyday he used to tell me that he had played or that the babysitter had read him stories but that day he told me that the defendant molested him.” She continued: “I asked him again to make sure that he was telling the truth. I told him that God would rip his eyes out if he was lying but he repeated the same story and said it was true.”The incident happened at a home in Muraqabbat in Dubai when the babysitter had gone out and left the child alone with the defendant.
