Saleswoman Pleads 
Guilty to Shopping with Others’ Credit Cards

A saleswoman pleaded 
guilty to the charge of using credits cards belonging to others for her 
personal gains. When confronted on Monday by Judge Al Saeed Bargouth of the 
Criminal Court of First Instance, the 21-year-old woman admitted to buying Dh5,142 worth of items by using others’ credit cards. The saleswoman used 22 credit cards of different customers.

Woman gets 10 years for smuggling cocaine

A woman from Thailand will spend ten years in jail and has to pay Dh50,000 fine for smuggling four kilogrammes of drugs which she planned to distribute, ruled a court. The accused will be deported after carrying out her punishment, said the verdict sheet. "She seemed confused when we searched her luggage and found a brown sack which contained a white substance that looked like cocaine."Records show the accused was referred to anti-narcotics police at the airport, where she said that she didn't know that the banned substance was in her bag.

Serial sex attacks

A man charged with rape may be behind a number of sex attacks in Dubai, a court has been told. Police said they had received complaints from women in the Satwa area who claimed to have been attacked by a man posing as a police officer. Now a 28-year-old bus driver has appeared at Dubai Court of First Instance charged in connection with two separate attacks. He faces charges of rape, sexual assault, kidnap and impersonating a policeman.

Dubai siblings die of suspected food poisoning

A Dubai-based couple's life was torn apart over the weekend when they lost both their son and daughter to suspected food poisoning, a friend of the family said. A French expatriate, had ordered take-away from the Lotus Garden Chinese restaurant in Al Ghusais on Friday evening and several hours later, when the children started vomiting, she rushed them to NMC Hospital. One of the children, a young boy, was pronounced dead on arrival. A young girl and a woman were than transferred to Dubai Hospital for further treatment. The young girl was pronounced dead in the morning but the woman is feeling better. All three cases are being linked to suspected food poisoning.

Jail for lift sex assault

A man has been jailed for three months for sexually assaulting a female stranger in a lift. The victim, a 27-year-old saleswoman, was in the lift at her home in Deira when the 32-year-old man got in, asked for her telephone number and then grabbed and kissed her. She pushed him away and fled to her flat. She then complained to the police.

Rape claim over affair

Two men have been jailed for a year for driving a teenage girl to a villa on Palm Jumeirah and having sex with her. The 27-year-old businessman and his 24-year-old compatriot, who was visiting Dubai, were originally charged with raping the 18-year-old womanbut the court later changed the charge to having an illegal affair. According to court records, the two defendants said they wanted to take the woman on a tour of Dubai but instead went to a villa on Palm Jumeirah, where, she claims, they forced her to have sex with them. The men will be deported after serving their sentence.

Three killed in horror accident on Business Bay

Drunken and reckless driving, along with speeding were the main causes of four deaths and three pedestrians being injured in five separate traffic accidents across the weekend in Dubai, said a senior traffic prosecutor. "In four accidents on Friday, one Bangladeshi motorcyclist was killed and three pedestrians - two Asian men and an 18-year-old Arab girl - were injured on four streets. The causes of Friday's accidents were mainly driving inattentively and under the influence of alcohol besides speeding."

Woman's body found in sea identified by father

The body of an Asian woman found by Dubai Police off the coast of Al Mamzar was identified by her father on Wednesday. The father of the 36-year-old woman filed a missing person report at Al Qusais Police Station following the absence of his mentally challenged daughter from their Al Qusais residence. The father was called in by Dubai Police to identify the floating body of the woman who was found on Wednesday at around 6am off the coast of Mamzar. Her mental disability was the cause of her drowning,

Highway robbery

Crooks are pretending to be unlicensed taxi drivers to rob unsuspecting passengers, Dubai Police has warned. The robbers are luring people into their cars with prices far lower than a real taxi would charge. However, once inside they are either conned out of cash or robbed using violence. And today Dubai Police urged members of public not to get into any unlicensed taxi - no matter how cheap it seems. The head of the Criminal Investigation Department told 7DAYS that he had seen a number of cases of residents jumping inside illegal taxis driven by criminals.
